Pre/Post Natal Treatments

Our pre and post-natal treatments combine Craniosacral and Myofascial therapy to support bones and ligaments in the period, in which hormone level in the body is vastly increased.

Additionally, mums-to-be may experience some restrictions and shift of the pelvis which can trigger tension in the nervous system. The sooner the pelvis issues or potential trauma of c-section and/or epidural are released from the body, the easier and quicker the healing process will be.

Craniosacral therapy is renowned for its gentle approach to healing while facilitating and increasing wellness. It aims to restore musculoskeletal reintegration, pelvic health and emotional balance.

ScarWork is a therapy which is used to improve feeling and functionality in the scar and surrounding tissues, creating better movement between the layers of skin, fascia (connective tissue) and muscle.

ScarWork Therapy for Caesarean Section Scar

with Maria Cobo

ScarWork Therapy is a specialised manual treatment to help patients with scar tissue, fibrosis, adhesions and changes in tissue health following surgery and radiotherapy. It is used to improve feeling and functionality in the scar and surrounding tissues, creating better movement between the layers of the skin, fascia (connective tissue) and muscle.
Scars often appear smaller, flatter, lighter and less prominent but the emphasis is on the underlying tissue changes. As the dense scar tissue reduces and the tissue health recovers, nerve impairment such as numbness, pain, itching, irritation or extreme sensitivity often improves.

Pre/Post Natal Five Element Acupuncture

with Victoria Moss

Acupuncture is an ancient system of medicine originating in Asia that has been used effectively as a holistic healing method for over 2,000 years. It works on the underlying principle that illness and pain occur when the body's Qi, or vital energy, cannot flow freely through the body's energy channels, known as meridians. There can be many reasons for this, including emotional and physical stress, poor nutrition, infection or injury. By inserting ultra-fine sterile needles into specific acupuncture points, the acupuncturist seeks to re-establish the free flow of Qi to restore balance and trigger the body's natural healing response.

Five Element Acupuncture

The five elements are Water, Wood, Fire, Earth and Metal and they are a fundamental and integral part of Chinese medicine and philosophy. Each element is associated with different organs, seasons, emotions, odours, colours, sounds and times of day. Everyone has all of the elements within them. Five element acupuncturists seek to find and treat the root cause of disease by diagnosing the element that is in distress. The focus is very much on the individual, not just their symptoms or illness, and treatment aims to bring about balance in the whole person - body, mind and spirit. It is used by many people as a preventative measure to strengthen their constitution and improve their immune system. It is highly effective in addressing stress and emotional problems before they lead to more serious illness. Patients often report an improvement in their feeling of general wellbeing, increased energy, improved sleep, and reduced stress.

Pre/Post Natal Osteopathy | Infant Feeding Coach

with Karly Proverbs

Osteopathy is a system of diagnosis and treatment for a wide range of medical conditions. It works with the structure and function of the body and is based on the principle that the well-being of an individual depends on the skeleton, muscles, ligaments and connective tissues functioning smoothly together..

Osteopaths are highly trained allied health professionals (AHPs) who are experts in the musculoskeletal system. Osteopathic treatment combines manual therapy, exercise and self-care advice which is specifically tailored to the needs of the individual.

Osteopathic treatment during pregnancy is safe and effective. Many women find osteopathy helpful for:

  • The management of aches and pains associated with pregnancy, including low back pain;

  • Advice on physical activity and exercise during pregnancy; and

  • Pelvic floor advice and preparation for birth

Postnatal osteopathic treatment can also help with:

  • Relieving aches and pains associated with birth and feeding baby and how to manage them

  • Pelvic floor health

  • A safe return to exercise

Pre/Post Natal Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Acupuncture

with Charlotte Palfrey

Acupuncture originated from China over 2000 years ago, fine sterilised needles are inserted into acupoints along meridians on the body which help promote blood flow and smooth flowing of Qi. When fine needles are inserted, they help promote healing and balance within the body to reduce any pain or ‘blockage’. When there is pain or an imbalance within the body, Qi is blocked and cannot flow smoothly resulting in pain. This can be caused by many factors such as lifestyle, stress, personal or work related issues, diet or external environment.

Acupuncture looks at the whole body not just the condition you are presenting and treats the root cause. During the in-depth consultation, Charlotte will ask questions regarding diet, lifestyle i.e. stress and overall wellbeing. She may include Oil Cupping or Moxibustion within your treatment depending on the consultation.

Trying to conceive

Acupuncture can help couples trying to conceive whether that is naturally or supporting IVF, and it is always recommended to treat women for at least 3 cycles. Acupuncture for fertility isn't just for women, men can have acupuncture as well if they have any issues, i.e. low sperm count, low mobility, ejaculations issues etc.

During pregnancy

It is safe to have acupuncture during your pregnancy to help with any pregnancy symptoms you are experiencing i.e. nausea, constipation, unbalanced emotions, anxiety or stress and energy levels.

If the baby is breech you can have acupuncture to help turn the baby naturally! It is recommended to have treatment at 34 weeks if the baby is breech, however some babies don't turn until 36 weeks. You can have treatment as late as 38 weeks, however having treatment closest to 34 weeks is most recommended.

Moxibustion will be mainly used during this treatment as this is what helps turn the baby, at the end of the treatment Charlotte will send you home with some Moxa for you to use to continue turning the baby until they are in the correct position.

Moxibustion also known as ‘Moxa’ is a Chinese herb called Mugwort. This herb is burnt near the skin giving off warmth to the client. This is very good if the cold weather affects your joints.

Acupuncture can help induce you naturally if you'd rather not be medically induced, depending on your medical situation and also what has been advised by your midwife and GP.

Post birth

You can also have acupuncture after you have given birth! Acupuncture can help if you are struggling to produce enough milk, have low energy/fatigue, unbalanced emotions, stressed, anxious or postnatal depression.

Please note clients attending the clinic will be required to wear a face mask.

Mummy MOT®

with Karly Proverbs

A Mummy MOT® is a specialist postnatal examination for women following both vaginal and caesarean deliveries.

After pregnancy, up to half of mothers’ experience weakness in their abdominal and pelvic floor muscles and up to a third still have a tummy gap after eight weeks. This can lead to women developing pelvic pain or back pain, problems with their bladder or bowel and/or sexual dysfunction. These conditions are not something you should simply live with because you have had a baby.

It is recommended that women have an initial assessment after their 8-week GP check, but Mummy MOT practitioners also treat women who gave birth years ago.

As a Mummy MOT practitioner, Karly is fully trained and licensed to carry out a Mummy MOT®. Mums lead active lives and need to bend, squat, lift and carry! As part of the Mummy MOT® Karly provides individually tailored postnatal care and functional exercises.

A Mummy MOT 1st consultation includes:

· A full postural screen

· Pelvic floor muscle assessment

· Abdominal muscle exam to check for any separation

· Screening for bladder, bowel or sexual dysfunction

Follow up treatment includes:

· Education and advice on activities such as lifting your baby or pushing a buggy.

· A bespoke rehabilitation programme with your goals and lifestyle factors in mind.

An explanation of Karly’s findings and number of further appointments needed will always be discussed.
