ScarWork Therapy for Caesarean Section Scar

with Maria Cobo

ScarWork Therapy is a specialised manual treatment to help patients with scar tissue, fibrosis, adhesions and changes in tissue health following surgery and radiotherapy. It is used to improve feeling and functionality in the scar and surrounding tissues, creating better movement between the layers of the skin, fascia (connective tissue) and muscle.
Scars often appear smaller, flatter, lighter and less prominent but the emphasis is on the underlying tissue changes. As the dense scar tissue reduces and the tissue health recovers, nerve impairment such as numbness, pain, itching, irritation or extreme sensitivity often improves.

Pre/Post Natal Five Element Acupuncture

with Victoria Moss

Acupuncture is an ancient system of medicine originating in Asia that has been used effectively as a holistic healing method for over 2,000 years. It works on the underlying principle that illness and pain occur when the body's Qi, or vital energy, cannot flow freely through the body's energy channels, known as meridians. There can be many reasons for this, including emotional and physical stress, poor nutrition, infection or injury. By inserting ultra-fine sterile needles into specific acupuncture points, the acupuncturist seeks to re-establish the free flow of Qi to restore balance and trigger the body's natural healing response.

Five Element Acupuncture

The five elements are Water, Wood, Fire, Earth and Metal and they are a fundamental and integral part of Chinese medicine and philosophy. Each element is associated with different organs, seasons, emotions, odours, colours, sounds and times of day. Everyone has all of the elements within them. Five element acupuncturists seek to find and treat the root cause of disease by diagnosing the element that is in distress. The focus is very much on the individual, not just their symptoms or illness, and treatment aims to bring about balance in the whole person - body, mind and spirit. It is used by many people as a preventative measure to strengthen their constitution and improve their immune system. It is highly effective in addressing stress and emotional problems before they lead to more serious illness. Patients often report an improvement in their feeling of general wellbeing, increased energy, improved sleep, and reduced stress.

Pre/Post Natal Osteopathy | Paediatric Osteopathy

with Karly Proverbs (Most, PgCert SPOP, DO, DN)

Osteopathy is a system of assessment, diagnosis and treatment for a wide range of medical conditions. It works with the structure and function of the body and is based on the principle that the well-being of an individual depends on the skeleton, muscles, ligaments and connective tissues functioning smoothly together..

Osteopaths are highly trained allied health professionals (AHPs) who are experts in the musculoskeletal system. Osteopathic treatment combines manual therapy, exercise and self-care advice which is specifically tailored to the needs of the individual.

Osteopathic treatment during pregnancy is safe and effective. Many women find osteopathy helpful for:

  • The management of aches and pains associated with pregnancy, including low back pain;

  • Advice on physical activity and exercise during pregnancy; and

  • Pelvic floor advice and preparation for birth

Postnatal osteopathic treatment can also help with:

  • Relieving aches and pains associated with birth and feeding baby and how to manage them

  • Pelvic floor health

  • A safe return to exercise

Paediatric Osteopathy - Newborn babies and children

Osteopathy is a gentle treatment which is suitable for babies and children. When treating babies, Karly uses techniques such as cranial osteopathy which is safe and non-manipulative and may have a soothing effect.

Karly has up to date paediatric first aid training and holds an enhanced DBS. The treatment room is entirely on the ground floor, so it is accessible to buggies.

Karly is a mum of twins so understands the stresses and strains of pregnancy and the demands motherhood places on the body (and mind). Please contact Karly for more information: osteokarly@gmail.com

A Mummy MOT® is a specialist postnatal examination for women following both vaginal and caesarean deliveries.

After pregnancy, up to half of mothers’ experience weakness in their abdominal and pelvic floor muscles and up to a third still have a tummy gap after eight weeks. This can lead to women developing pelvic pain or back pain, problems with their bladder or bowel and/or sexual dysfunction. These conditions are not something you should simply live with because you have had a baby.

It is recommended that women have an initial assessment after their 8-week GP check, but Mummy MOT practitioners also treat women who gave birth years ago.

As a Mummy MOT practitioner, Karly is fully trained and licensed to carry out a Mummy MOT®. Mums lead active lives and need to bend, squat, lift and carry! As part of the Mummy MOT® Karly provides individually tailored postnatal care and functional exercises.

Tongue Tie

with Leonie Bryan

As a Tongue tie practitioner, Leonie can identify if your baby might have any oral restrictions which could impact your feeding journey, by looking at both the function and the appearance of the tongue and mouth. She will discuss and share information about the short- and long-term potential implications for this and whether it would be beneficial for your baby to divide the frenulum aiming to increase tongue function and mobility. She is able to refer you to other health care practitioners who can offer body work on your baby to release any tension which may be presenting in the soft tissue, and local feeding support groups.

Sessions cost £220 this includes your initial appointment, 1 hour 15 min, to assess the oral function, review your feeding and perform the frenulotomy (if indicated) and the opportunity to attend a 30 minute follow up 2 weeks after your initial session.
