Meditation

Meditation is rapidly becoming a practice that is as popular as it is effective in the western world amongst all walks of life.

In brief, meditation is an approach that anyone can use to enhance health, quality of life, relaxation and focus.   There are many different approaches to meditation, however, the end goal of all forms are to lead to a mind that is “quietened” and free from stress.

There are a variety of benefits that have been linked with the regular practice of meditation.  It can bring about the healing of both the body and mind by using delibertation of thought and consideration.  There are various physical benefits that can be experienced when meditation becomes a part of daily life.  Some physical benefits include a decrease in blood pressure and an improvement in breathing due to the increase of air flow to the lungs.

Meditation is a practice that brings about not only physical benefits, but psychological benefits also.  Relaxation and a decrease in stress are the obvious benefits, but many experience a vast improvement in overall well-being, mood, memory and mental clarity.

Research has scientifically proven that meditation is a safe and simple way to balance your physical, emotional and mental state, and its countless values have been known and practiced for many years.  More and more doctors now promote the benefits of meditation to cure many stress related illnesses.

Below are just some of the benefits of meditation:

  • Increases serotonin which influences moods and behaviour.  Low levels of serotonin are commonly associated with depression, headaches and insomnia.
  • Reduces anxiety as it lowers the levels of blood lactate
  • Enhances energy, strength and vitality
  • Creates a state of deep relaxation and general feeling of well-being
  • Increases concentration and focus – strengthening the mind

If you practice regularly, the benefits of meditation will promote a sense of calm and control, you’ll feel far more relaxed and happy.  Your ability to concentrate will be greater.  You will cease to become stressed about the daily “niggles” of life and you’ll feel more peaceful and relaxed about everything.  One of the greatest benefits of meditation is learning to “go with the flow” – things that may have given rise to irritation in the past – simply become insignificant.
